Had scooter riders worn helmets, the tragedy in southwest Sydney could have been avoided.
A 44-year-old man was riding his scooter without a helmet outside Wilton around 11 p.m. Saturday when he got caught in a ditch and was knocked to the ground, police said.
The man had a serious head injury and was being given CPR by friends and family until the NSW Ambulance crew arrived.
He was taken to Campbeltown Hospital in critical condition but died overnight, police said Sunday.
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash has been launched and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
