500 jobs at risk as company collapses

A prominent farming enterprise with operations spanning Australia has voluntarily entered administration, endangering approximately 500 jobs.

HS Fresh Food, specializing in fresh salads, ready-made meals, snacks, food-to-go, and pre-prepared vegetable products, collapsed on June 14. Administrators from FTI Consulting—Vaughan Strawbridge, Joanne Dunn, and Ben Campbell—have been appointed to oversee the restructuring of the troubled company.

The company’s portfolio includes well-known brands such as Houston’s Farm, Sunfresh, and Gourmet Selections, with its products distributed to major retailers like Coles and Woolworths.

According to its LinkedIn profile, HS Fresh Food employs between 500 and 1000 individuals.

In a statement released on Monday, the administrators assured that the company would continue to operate and retain its workforce throughout the administration process as they pursue options to restructure or sell the business.

“We are collaborating closely with the management team, staff, and other stakeholders of HS Fresh Food Group to maintain operations while securing the future of the business,” said Mr. Strawbridge.

“A sale process for the business and assets of HS Fresh Food Group was already underway and is now in advanced stages. We plan to continue this process, exploring all available avenues, and are optimistic about finalizing a sale or recapitalization swiftly with the backing of all relevant stakeholders.”

Founded in Tasmania as Houston’s Farms, the company expanded its operations to New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, and Western Australia over the years.
