Sri Lankan international cricketer Dhanushka Gunatilaka has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
Police launched an investigation on Saturday after reports that a 29-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at her Rose Bay home earlier this week.
Police say the woman met Gunati Raka after communicating with him on a dating app for days before Wednesday night’s assault.
The 31-year-old cricketer was arrested early Sunday morning at a central Sydney hotel and charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent.
He was refused to appear in Parramatta Bail Court via video link.
Gunathilaka traveled to Australia with Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup team but did not play after being ruled out of the competition with a torn hamstring.
The left-handed hitter has played nearly 100 T20s and one-day internationals in Sri Lanka and has also done some testing.
Sri Lanka were ejected from the T20 tournament on Saturday night after losing their final match against England.
