Digital IDs: What is it and why should I care?
A digital identity is a private and secure way to prove your identity when accessing services or completing transactions online or in person. Eliminates the need for face-to-face interactions and physical identification to prove your identity.
The NSW Government is building a future where digital identities are private, secure, and convenient in ways never seen before. Your personal information should be securely stored on your mobile device and not held centrally by a government agency or commercial company.
manage your identity
A NSW Digital ID enhances your privacy and puts you in control of your identity. You can prove your identity without over-sharing personal information. This saves you the hassle of registering and applying for things you need to do, such as access to government services, applying for licenses and grants, opening bank accounts, changing utilities, enrolling your children in school, and more.
Digital versions of all your most-needed credentials, such as birth certificates, children’s checks and driver’s licenses, are encrypted and stored in your mobile device’s private digital wallet. Keep your information private and easy to share securely with whoever you want, so you’re always in control. You can update who has access at any time and choose at any time.
No need to overshare anymore
NSW Digital IDs and Digital Credentials don’t replace paper or plastic versions of your credentials, but they do give you the option to share who you are and what you’re entitled to digitally. Eliminate the inconvenience of having to share scans or copies of physical documents or cards to prove your identity.
NSW Digital ID is opt-in and easy for everyone to use. This improves accessibility, especially for customers with disabilities, those who have time constraints, or those who live in rural areas. This puts all our customers in control of their digital identities and credentials.
It’s time to embrace a digital identity that gives you true control over your personal information. No need to overshare anymore!
