Firefighters are monitoring a fire at a wind turbine just west of Goulburn in the southern New South Wales highlands.
The local fire department said the fire was burning at the top of the Bledalvane turbine and was beyond the reach of firefighting resources.
RFS spokesman Greg Allen said the crew had been on site since about 6 a.m. and there was no immediate threat to the surrounding facility.
“The crew has also created a no-go zone around the base of that turbine to monitor any grass fires that may occur,” Allen said.
“However, the fire has been contained and the crew may be on site for some time today.”
Allen said the loss of power to the turbine was an unusual call to the fire brigade.
“This time of year, RFS crews and fire departments are most likely dealing with grass and wildfires,” he said.
“This is a very unique case.”
