Two killed, driver on the run after three-car crash in south-west Sydney
A woman and a teenage boy are dead and a driver is on the run after a three-car crash in south-western Sydney on Friday night.
Police are still searching for the occupants of a black Mercedes, who fled the scene of the crash on Sadleir Avenue in Heckenberg, near Liverpool.
The Mercedes and a silver Toyota Echo collided head-on about 9.20pm, police said, before the Mercedes hit a Toyota RAV4 and flipped on to its side.
Witnesses told police the occupants of the Mercedes climbed out of the car and got into a Volkswagen Golf, which then drove off.
Paramedics tried to save the occupants of the Echo – a 24-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy – but they died at the scene. They are yet to be formally identified.
The occupants of the RAV4 were not hurt.
Police said they later found the Volkswagen in the neighbouring suburb of Ashcroft and the driver of that car, an 18-year-old man, was arrested about 11.30pm after attending Liverpool police station. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.
The crash investigation unit has examined the scene of the crash and the Mercedes has been seized and will be forensically tested.
Police have appealed for public help to identify the occupants of the Mercedes. Anyone with dashcam or mobile phone footage of the crash, or other information, should call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
