Tropical Cyclone Erie makes landfall in NT
Cyclone Erie made landfall in the sparsely populated area of the Daly River mouth in the Northern Territory.
A gust of wind reaching 110 kilometers per hour is occurring from the south of the Daly RiverMouth in the region near the Timor Sea to Wadeye and inland to Peppimenarti.
The Category 1 storm is crossing the coast at 11:00 PM CST and moving south over land, causing sustained winds and heavy rains.
In the morning, strong winds with gusts of up to 90 km/h can develop south of Wadi to the border of the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
A statement issued by the Bureau of Meteorology said low-lying coastal areas could experience minor flooding and tides between Dundee Beach and Wyndham could be higher than normal.
Wadeye residents are advised to check the house plan and wait for advice.
Those close to Windham, Kununurra and the Northern Territory border will be notified that the cyclone danger has passed.
