The father, who lives in Bankstown, west of Sydney, said he couldn’t believe it when he heard he had won $100 million in Thursday’s Powerball draw.
He became the only Division 1 winner in the lottery and Australia’s second-largest lottery winner.
The only Australian lottery player to win more than the man was a Sydney nurse who won over $107 million in January 2019.
The man initially told the lottery official he intended to keep the job, but his wife had other ideas.
“I will continue to work, but I have to deal with this some more. Maybe I won’t go in the future!”
“Work?! We are millionaires now!” his wife interrupted.
When he got the life-changing phone call, the man burst into hysterical laughter and slapped his face to make sure it wasn’t a dream.
“Are you serious?! Do you have the right person?” he said.
“I’m with my wife now. She’s in shock.
“I won’t be able to sleep well tonight.”
The man said the couple plans to buy a new home and prepare for the future.
“This is unbelievable! I won $100 million!? Am I dreaming? Am I already a millionaire?!” he said.
In addition to the sole winner of Division 1, Thursday’s Powerball will feature a total of 3,867,940 prizes worth over $77.61 million, including 10 Division 2 winners, each with Won $216,070.
