Richmond key forward Tom Lynch wins first Club Best and Fairest award

Barnstorming to close out the season, star Richmond forward Tom Lynch won the club’s best and fairest to cap off one of his best years with the Tigers.

In the final four games of the home and away season, Lynch kicked 21 goals, including eight against Hawthorn in the 22nd round to earn his first Jack Dyer Medal.

Lynch finished the home-and-away season with the most votes in four consecutive games, beating teammate Daniel Rioli by one vote with five goals in the final round against Essendon.

The victory was all the more surprising given that Lynch only played 19 of the Tigers’ 23 games in 2022. Rioli played in every match, finishing his best ever with Jack Dyer’s medals.

Lynch scored 63 goals during the season. This equaled the tally reached in his first year at the road punts and also led to his first premiership.

The award was the 29-year-old key forward’s third Club Best and Fairest award after winning two Club Champions Awards on the Gold Coast in 2015 and 2016.

Midfield star Dion Prestia is in third place by four votes, while Shai Bolton and Liam Baker (53 votes) rounded out the top five.

Bolton and Baker finished in the top five for the second year in a row, while 2019 winner Prestia is back on the podium after a two-season injury hiatus.

Former captain Trent Cotchin finished sixth, his 12th top 10 finish in the last 13 seasons, while Dustin Martin has been off the leaderboard after nine games of the season.
