Police open homicide investigation after teenage stabbing
A 45-year-old man is recovering in hospital after a 3-year-old boy was found stabbed to death in a house in southwest Sydney, detectives from the Homicide Squad are investigating.
Police found the boy’s body at a unit in Riverwood around 4 p.m. Wednesday after responding to a “concern for welfare” call.
A man who was also in the apartment was seriously injured and is under police surveillance at the hospital.
He was treated at the scene and is said to be in a stable condition after the operation.
Superintendent Sheridan Waldo said the apartment complex is now a crime scene.
“Homicide Squad has been contacted and is currently on the scene to assist with the investigation,” she said Wednesday.
Sapt-Waldau said the attack on the child appeared to be a “horrifying” domestic violence-related incident.
Police said the boy’s mother had died several years ago and that the boy had been living with a man and a woman from another family.
The man has a partner and she also helps the police.
“Any incident involving a young child is always a tragic event and my condolences to the child’s family,” said Saputo Waldoh.
“Unfortunately, the police are always present in domestic violence cases.
“We witness 140,000 cases each year, and unfortunately some of them end in murder.”
