Penrith Panthers winger Tyrann May out of NRL season with knee injury
Penrith’s NRL Premiership defense took a hit, with winger Tyran May ruled out the entire season with a knee injury.
Key Point:
- May was injured in the Panthers’ World Club Challenge loss to St. Helens.
- He was already set to miss the first two rounds of the season due to suspension
- May scored 16 tries in Panthers’ successful 2022 premiership campaign
May was injured in a tackle in the first half of the game. Scan confirms ACL injury as Panthers lose World Club Challenge to St. Helens.
He was already set to miss the first two games of the following year Controversial off-field ban postponed by NRL late last season.
However, he will instead miss the entire 2023 season and undergo surgery on his injured knee.
May proved difficult to stop on the left wing last season after scoring 16 tries in a breakout rookie year with the Panthers.
His work from Penrith’s own side has been equally valuable, with him and Brian Tuo regularly putting the Panthers forward.
Fiji international Sunia Turba is almost certain to replace May, with Tuo back on the left and Turba likely on the right.
The club allowed backup winger Charlie Staines to move to the West Tigers during the offseason, making a player swap for Tyrone Peachey.
The Panthers also lost Villiame Kikau and Apisai Coloisau to Canterbury and Tigers respectively.
They will play Brisbane at home in the first round in an attempt to clinch their third consecutive title.
