New South Wales police arrest man after woman’s body found in apartment
A 32-year-old man was arrested after the body of a woman was found in a Penrith apartment and a burned-out car in nearby bushland.
At about 4:15 pm on Monday, police said the woman went to Penrith Police Station and reported finding her body on the Colles Street compound near Nepean Hospital.
Officers from the Nepean Police Area Command set up a crime scene at the apartment. Her official identity has not been revealed, but she is believed to be the 28-year-old woman who lives in the house.
Early Tuesday morning, police arrested a 32-year-old man at a house on Robinson Road in Cranebrook, just north of Penrith.
“The man has been taken to Penrith Police Station for questioning,” a police statement said.
Police said the woman’s burnt-out car was found in the bush near Post Office Road in Castlereagh, about a 15-minute drive from her apartment. The car has been seized by the police and will be investigated forensically.
Police believe another person was at the Colless Street apartment before the woman who called police arrived.
“Detectives, under Strike Force Dière and with the support of the National Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, have launched an investigation into the death of a woman,” a spokesperson said.
“The investigation is still in its infancy and we encourage anyone who may have information that may be useful in investigating the strike force to contact Penrith Police Department or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
