Experienced new nurse
Victoria Trevitt, a registered nurse at Nepean Hospital, knows all too well how a nurse’s kindness and compassion can improve the hospital experience.
Unwell and spending a lot of time in the hospital, she was comforted by the nurses who took care of her.
“I loved their care and that it was their job to be there for people when they needed them most. , I feel so much better.
“I was probably 10 years old when I decided I wanted to be a nurse.”
As one of the graduate nurses who joined Nepean Hospital earlier this year, Victoria is now making that dream a reality.
There was a steep learning curve in the first few weeks, but Victoria says she thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.
“Nepian Hospital is a great hospital for new graduate nurses,” she says.
“Everyone at Nepean has been very supportive and welcoming.
Victoria is looking forward to the year ahead and various hospital rotations, but knows that her own patient experience will motivate and inspire her nursing practice.
“I look back on my own experience and how comforting I felt in those moments when the nurses were kind to me when I was scared. I am very happy,” says Victoria.
“It takes a very special person to do nursing. It can be quite stressful but at the same time it is very rewarding. It’s satisfying work.”
