A woman who was fatally injured in her Sydney home has been identified.
Erin Gilbert, 42, was found in the living area of her Maryland apartment around 11:30 p.m. Sunday after neighbors called police and reported concerns for her welfare.
When officers arrived at the Newman Street unit, they found Gilbert’s 38-year-old husband attempting to resuscitate her.
“Her partner was performing CPR on her,” Cumberland Police Chief Andrew Holland told reporters on Tuesday.
“The injuries were very serious and serious. Unfortunately, the exact cause of death is unknown at this time.”
Gilbert’s husband, who has not been publicly identified, was taken to the Granville Police Department for questioning and then released without charge.
“I think Erin was home in the unit block that night,” said Superintendent Holland. “Her neighbors heard her in the unit block…we are concerned that someone else was in the unit block with her.”
Police have identified the crime scene and professional forensic police are investigating the suspicious death.
“There was an extensive investigation into the location, the premises surrounding the area along the street (and) CCTV footage of her partner, and where he was,” said Superintendent Holland.
“Erin and her partner are well known in the local community,” he said, adding that Gilbert’s husband was “very positive.”
“He has not been excluded or excluded at this stage,” said Superintendent Holland.
Gilbert was known to police for “a few minor issues,” and the couple had lived in the Parramatta area for the past few years before recently moving into an apartment in Marylands.
Police are seeking assistance in establishing a timeline for the incident.
“Something happened Sunday night. She hadn’t been dead for a long time when the police arrived,” said Superintendent Holland.
