ABC Classic Invites You to Share Your Feel-Good Favorites as the Classic 100 Voting Begins
ABC Classic Wants to Uncover Australia’s Favorite Feel-Good Classical Music Pieces
Throughout May, ABC Classic is posing this question to discover Australia’s preferred feel-good classical music. Voting for the annual Classic 100 poll commenced on May 6.
The Classic 100: Feel Good is all about celebrating music that evokes joy, gets you moving, and inspires positivity. ABC Classic Manager Kat McGuffie explains the straightforward premise of this year’s poll, urging listeners to vote from the heart to curate the ultimate feel-good collection.
The science behind it is solid too. As ABC Classic presenter and registered psychologist Greta Bradman notes, music has the power to trigger the release of neurochemicals that induce feelings of happiness and well-being.
What is the Classic 100?
The Classic 100 is an annual poll where ABC audiences nominate their favorite classical music pieces based on a specific theme. Following the closure of voting, the top 100 selections, as voted by the public, are counted down over two days in June.
This cherished event has been running for over twenty years, exploring diverse themes such as symphonies, vocal works, and music for film. Last year, the cello emerged as Australia’s favorite instrument in the Classic 100: Instrument.
Classic Breakfast presenter Megan Burslem expresses her excitement for this year’s theme, anticipating the uplifting sensation it will bring.
For the second consecutive year, the Classic 100 will be commemorated with a special highlights concert by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, led by Principal Conductor in Residence and Creative Director of the concert, Benjamin Northey, at Hamer Hall.
