Hobby pig farmer not in NSW when woman goes missing, court reported

When Roxlyn Bowie disappeared, there was a man in Queensland who was herding pigs near the outback town of Walget, New South Wales, with John Bowie, who was accused of killing his wife. said a Supreme Court jury.

Bowie, 72, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his first wife, Roxlin, who was 31 when he went missing on the night of June 5, 1982.

The Crown alleges that Bowie, a retired paramedic, murdered Roxlyn in order to pursue a free and serious relationship with another woman. It is possible that the body was disposed of by feeding her to pigs..

In an opening address in Sydney last month, Crown Prosecutor Alex Morris said Bowie regularly fed pigs at the Kangaroo Meat Plant outside Walgett.

On Monday, Morris read out a statement about the record Walgett local Gregory Paul Chapman made in March 1990, when he was 53 years old.

Chapman said he had a business relationship with Bowie and that it was “a small part of the pig farm that I was interested in” and that their interest was “just a hobby”.

He said that when Bowie was away on business, he tended the pigs, sometimes for weeks.

Chapman said he couldn’t remember when he first met the couple, but he would have a barbecue with his wife.

“During the time I knew Bowie, I was unaware of the domestic issues they were having,” his statement reads.
