Labor MP Linda Scott, who voted to keep the cycleway for another three years, said it would be in the public interest for the state government and city council to work together to build a quality cycleway on Oxford Street.

“Communities have been waiting for years under the former Liberal government and should hurry to get the long-awaited critical cycling infrastructure in place,” she said.

Transport for NSW has announced it will resume consultations with communities, local businesses and council on the proposed Oxford Street East Bike Path to help develop the project’s concept design and final business case.

The company expects a project plan and environmental review to be released later this year, but declined to say when construction would begin or how much it would cost.

In March 2021, the then-Morrison administration pledged to finance half of the cost of the Oxford Street East cycle path.
