“At the same time, we want freedom and innovation and things in society that come from tools like this. We don’t want to take them away.”

Instead, Dr. Dreyfus says those creating these programs need to think about ethical issues from the beginning.
“We need education, not just to get the public thinking about ethical issues, but to make sure future engineers are trained in ethical behavior,” she says.
“This is more important than ever because they are producing tools that are more powerful than ever.”
