The report estimates that 55 per cent of Australians will have a university degree by 2050, well above the 36 per cent of the workforce who currently have a degree.

During that time, the number of university students doubled to an estimated 1.8 million each year.

Mr Clare warned that university placements need to reach more Australians to support the demand for educated workers.

“The only way this report can do this is to significantly increase the number of suburban and rural college students, students from poor backgrounds, students with disabilities, and indigenous peoples,” he said. said.

“If we don’t, we won’t have the skills or the economy we need to make this country everything in the years to come.”

The Albanon Government believes that ‘bold and long-term change is needed to deliver on Australia’s higher education mission’.

The government has announced a number of “immediate measures”, including abolishing the 50 percent passing rule, increasing funding for eligible indigenous students to take courses, and establishing additional regional university study hubs.

Other priorities include giving universities more support to improve governance, and extending the Higher Education Continuity Guarantee for another two years.
