Man who allegedly wielded machete at family in north west Sydney charged with attempted murder

A man who allegedly threatened a family with a machete after breaking into their home in north-west Sydney has been charged with attempted murder.

NSW Police were called to the Kellyville home shortly after 2.30am on Tuesday, after reports a 41-year-old had broken in.

A 39-year-old man confronted and restrained the alleged assailant until police arrived. 

Police say a 35-year-old woman and three children were at home during the attack, and are shaken but unharmed.

Paramedics treated the the North Kellyville man for lacerations to his arms before taking him to hospital under police guard. 

He has since been charged with several offences, including break and enter a dwelling and assault with intent to murder, and contravene prohibition or restriction of an AVO. 

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow.
