Worst Christmas drownings in nearly 20 years

A flurry of summer drownings followed Tuesday after a five-year-old girl was pulled from water in Nagamby, north-central Victoria.

The child, from Wendley in the western part of the state, was reported missing around 2:20pm near Lake Nagambie after being with family, according to Victoria Police.

A short time later, relatives found her in the water and took her to a bank where emergency services performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. A child dies at the scene and the police prepare a report for the coroner.
