Police resume search for St Ives man

Emergency services will resume the search for a missing St Ives man in the Blue Mountains starting Sunday.

Police received a report of a canyoner missing in the Wollangambe River at Mount Wilson around 5pm.

Police understand that a 39-year-old man was canyoning with a group when he went missing.

Officers have launched a search of the waters and the surrounding area with the help of professional police and PolAir belonging to Police Rescue, as well as NSW ambulances. The search was called off around 7pm on Sunday due to insufficient light.

Originally scheduled to begin at 7:00 am, the search began at 9:00 am on Monday with a command post at the Mt. Wilson Rural Fire Brigade.

Nine reported that wet weather had hampered efforts to locate the missing man, as dense fog, drizzle and poor visibility made the crew’s task difficult.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
