Man killed in assault and blaze in east Melbourne, two arrested

Two people have been arrested after a man was assaulted and killed at a Chadstone home that was set on fire earlier this week.

Victoria Police said a man was assaulted at the house earlier this week and his body, which has yet to be formally identified, was found on Mount Waverley on Friday afternoon following an extensive search.

A 36-year-old woman was arrested in Seaford on Thursday night, and Missing Persons Unit detectives arrested a 35-year-old man in Calham Downs on Friday afternoon. Both are from Chadstone and will be questioned by police.

Police said the arrests followed the alleged assault and death of a man in his 40s at a residence on Binalong Road.

On Tuesday, emergency services were called to the address after a fire broke out, but it is now being treated as a suspicious fire.

A police statement released Friday afternoon said: “The individuals involved are believed to have known each other and an investigation is ongoing.”

Forensic investigators searched the scene Friday in Chadstone, photographed it, and placed a yellow evidence marker behind a metal fence in nearby scrubland, directly across from a row of houses.
