Man dies in Highclere Avenue unit

A man aged in his 50s has died after a unit fire in Sydney’s south-west.

The blaze broke out at the property on Highclere Avenue in Punchbowl at about 10pm on Saturday.

Emergency services arrived to find a unit alight.

“A 54-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene,” police said in a statement on Sunday.

Firefighters extinguished the flames. A crime scene has been established and investigations have begun into its cause.
