He said thunderstorms are expected to return to the Brisbane area by Saturday.
The agency issued an extreme heat wave warning for the Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, the Central Coast and Whitsundays, and the Northwest, and expected most of the upper half of the state to be affected.
Severe heatwave warnings have also been issued for most of Queensland, including the South East Coast, Wide Bay and Burnet, Peninsula, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Highlands and Coalfields, and Central West.
With the warning, Labor Relations Minister Grace Grace alerted business owners to their obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to protect workers from heatstroke.
“Working in the heat is not only uncomfortable, it can be dangerous and even deadly,” the minister said.
