Heavy rain is expected for the Bathurst area, Gunnedah and Forbes areas Friday through the weekend, with new major flood warnings issued for Gwydir, Namoy, Macquarie, Belbra, Lachlan, Bogan River and Mundagery Creek.

Noble worried that people driving to and from the event would not drive on condition, and urged those driving to the supercar race to stick to the main roads.

“Don’t be silly and drive in the water. You might look at Google Maps and think, ‘I can take the back roads.’ We have to stick to the major highways,” he said.

Major flooding is also possible in parts of the Lower Hunter and Wollombee rivers over the weekend.

Emergency Services Minister Steph Cook said her main concern was complacency as she transitioned into the next 48 hours.

“We are now in the middle of two wet weather systems and expect worsening weather conditions during this time,” she said.

“On this basis, we are seeking the cooperation of communities, particularly those in the Hawkesbury Nepean region.

“The risk of complacency has always been a concern for us, which is why we continue to move forward day by day and keep our community informed.”

After Thursday marked the wettest year on recordmany roads are still closed in Sydney due to flooding.

Oxford Falls Road is closed between Wakehurst Parkway and Aluna Road in Oxford Falls and Cambridge Avenue is closed between Canterbury Road and Moorebank Avenue in Glenfield.

Kattai Road between Wisemans Ferry Road and Mitchell Park Road in Kattai is also closed and Audley Weir in the Royal National Park remains closed.
