2024 T20 World Cup: USA Announces Squad, Corey Anderson Included but Unmukt Chand Misses Out

The United States of America (USA) unveiled their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, with former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson being a notable inclusion. Anderson, renowned for his exploits in the 2015 Men’s Cricket World Cup final, has represented New Zealand in 13 Tests and 48 ODIs before relocating to the USA in 2020. Eligible to play for the USA since 2023, Anderson’s addition bolsters the team’s prospects in the tournament commencing on 1 June.

Monank Patel, the 31-year-old wicket-keeper batter, will spearhead the USA squad, with the selection showcasing a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talents. The squad draws heavily from performers in the recent T20I series triumph against Canada, providing continuity in team dynamics. However, the absence of former Indian U19 captain Unmukt Chand from the final 15 is a notable omission.

Among the familiar faces in the squad are Saurabh Netravalkar, the USA’s most capped player, along with Aaron Jones and opener Steven Taylor, both prominent figures in the team’s international cricket history. The emergence of off-spinner Milind Kumar, who made his debut during the Canada series, adds depth to the squad’s bowling arsenal.

The complete USA squad for the T20 World Cup comprises Monank Patel (captain), Aaron Jones (vice-captain), Andries Gous, Corey Anderson, Ali Khan, Harmeet Singh, Jessy Singh, Milind Kumar, Nisarg Patel, Nitish Kumar, Noshtush Kenjige, Saurabh Nethralvakar, Shadley Van Schalkwyk, Steven Taylor, and Shayan Jahangir. Additionally, Gajanand Singh, Juanoy Drysdale, and Yasir Mohammad have been designated as reserve players, ensuring ample backup options for the team management.
