After appearing on the verge of heading to IndyCar, American F3 racer Logan Sargeant was signed by Williams Racing to attend the team’s Driver Academy.
Sargent was scheduled to test with the IndyCar team AJ Foyt Racing at Barber Motorsports Park next week. The same test as Nico Hulkenberg is for the first time with a sample IndyCar device.
However, it has been announced that Americans have withdrawn from the test and have since participated in the iconic Formula 1 Team Junior Development Program.
“I am delighted to be able to attend the Williams Racing Driver Academy,” said Sergeant.
“It’s not just a great history, it’s a team with a great track record of bringing young talent to Formula One. I’m really excited to start working with the team and can’t wait to get started.”
After the British team was acquired by American investment firm Drillton Capital in the middle of last season, the signature of an American driver will allow Williams Racing to build a closer relationship with the United States.
“We are very pleased to welcome Logan to the Williams Racing Driver Academy,” said Yostkapit, CEO of Williams Racing.
“He has demonstrated his talent in FIA Formula 3 and has consistently produced strong results in highly competitive areas. Williams will play a role in supporting the progress and growth of another talented young driver. I’m proud to do it. “
Sargent spent three seasons in FIA Formula 3 and finished third in the championship in 2020, when he was an Australian Oscar Piastri and teammate.
The 20-year-old will join Roynissany, Jack Aitken and Jamie Chadwick at the Williams Racing Driver Academy. Dan Tictam left the program in August.
