Wallsend-Liberals eager to revive the abandoned plans on the Mayfield Road | Newcastle Herald

News, Council-News,

The two liberal candidates believe that the abandoned plan for the highway between Wallsend and Mayfield should be revived. Ward 4 candidate Callum Pull and Ward 1 candidate Blake Keating have promised support for highways that were previously used as road reserves. When the state decided to build an inner city bypass, the route was abandoned, but some land along the route remained vacant. “The land corridor is there and this road is ready. While our city is more crowded, we can’t sit vaguely for another decade,” Keating said. Said. Pull said the project would put pressure on suburban streets that are used as major roads throughout the western suburbs. “What we want is for commuters to make a clear run, instead of winding through a myriad of different streets to get from one side of the city to the other,” he said. The duo said they could recreate the original plan. “The basics of this project are solid,” Pull said. Parliamentary elections will take place on December 4th. Pre-voting starts on Monday.
