Lyndale Secondary College: Man’s body found in greenhouse prompting major investigation

A man could have laid dead for days in the greenhouse of a Melbourne school before he was discovered by a staff member.

The body was found in the grounds of Lyndale Secondary College in Dandenong North about 7am on Monday, sparking a homicide investigation.

The staff member who made the grisly discovery as he was opening up the school was receiving support.

“It would be a shock,” Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas told reporters.

Det Insp Thomas said the death was suspicious due to man’s injuries, although refused to disclose their nature.

A crime scene has been established as detectives comb the school campus for clues.

“We’re looking for weapons,” he said.

The man is yet to be identified by police but is described as being of African descent and probably in his 20s or 30s.

Police don’t believe he is connected to the school but investigations are ongoing.

Det Insp Thomas said it was too early to say if the man was killed on school grounds or his body was dumped there.

Police are urging anyone who may have been the area from 7.30pm on Friday to 7am on Monday to come forward if they saw anything suspicious or have dash cam footage.

The high school remained open for classes on Monday, with students kept away from the scene.

“Full support is available to any students and staff affected by this incident,” a Department of Education spokesman said.

Year 12 students across Victoria are scheduled to complete their VCE English exam on Tuesday.
