A submarine volcano off Tonga erupted, issuing tsunami warnings on parts of Australia’s east coast, including Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania, and Victoria.
The Meteorological Bureau has also issued warnings to Macquarie Island, Norfolk Island, and Lord Howe Island.
A video posted on social media showed the waves hitting Tonga’s home.
The volcano first erupted on Friday, sending a 20 km ash eruption into the air, evacuating the Tongans.
Australian authorities have warned residents of the warning zone to travel inland one kilometer or more than 10 meters above sea level.
The federal government is closely monitoring the situation.
