13,000 HSC students receive false rejection letters

The University Admissions Center has been forced to apologize to some 13,000 NSW students who were misrepresented as failing to pass their university courses.

The organization blamed a system error for sending rejection emails to thousands of students on Thursday saying they didn’t get a spot.

Those who received the letter were unable to secure a course place in the December offer round, but were able to receive an offer to the university in the January round, the correspondence claimed.

UAC apologized to the student in a follow-up email informing them of the mistake.

“Please ignore the email you received today saying your application was unsuccessful. It was sent in error,” the admissions center said.

“Not all institutions will put their offers in the second round in December…some will wait until the first round in January. ,Please contact us.”

An erroneous rejection email was sent just two weeks after the early publication of this year’s HSC results.

The NSW Education Standards Authority (Nesa) has released links to some student results, five days before they were officially announced on December 15th.

“For a brief period this morning, some students had access to a provisional set of HSC results for 2022,” a spokesperson said on Dec. 10.

“Nesa is investigating the cause of the issue and sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience.”
