Troy Grant’s father, Kenneth Grant, was found guilty of a deadly hit-and-run after the judge refused to defend against sleepwalking.

In Friday’s ruling, Judge John Hatzistergos dismissed these explanations, Grant was found guilty of all charges, and was granted an additional charge for drunk driving.

Judge Hatzistergos said when Grant was finally stopped by the police, the policeman remembered him, “My son is Troy Grant, the police minister, and I’m angry.”

Grant told officers that he was attending the party, and when asked what he struck, he didn’t say “nothing.”

Judge Hatzistergos said Mr. Greenfield’s wife was walking shortly in front of him by the sidewalkless road and heard noise behind her before the object flew to the grass about 20 meters in front of her. I remembered that. She soon realized that it was her husband.

An ambulance was called in and Mr Greenfield was taken to John Hunter Hospital and could not be rescued.

Judge Hatzistergos said there was no evidence of a mechanical failure in the car and that something on the road caused the accident. There was no evidence that the car had braked before the collision, but there was evidence of “emergency braking” after Mr Greenfield was beaten.

The judge admitted that Grant had a history of sleepwalking, but quoted expert evidence that this behavior was “very rare” in his 70s. A sleep expert told a trial that he had never seen such a case in 20 years of practice.

Judge Hatzistergos said Grant has an “extensive history of alcohol abuse” that reduces slow-wave sleep and reduces the likelihood of sleepwalking.

“The combination of situations outlined makes me happy that there was no reasonable possibility that the accused was sleepwalking at the time of the collision,” said Judge Hatstelgos.

“When I come to this view, I am bold in the strength of the evidence that alcohol can explain abnormal driving.”

Judge Hatzistergos said Grant’s memory loss could also be explained by alcohol, and the eyesight recorded by police body cameras showed that he was “consciously and spontaneously acting.”

“The accused has been found guilty in all respects,” said Judge Hatstelgos.

Grant will face a sentencing trial in February.
