Southwest Sydney: Two indicted following blockade protest

Two people were indicted after protests against additional blockades in southwest Sydney.

After 4 pm on Saturday, a large crowd gathered at Paul Keating Park in Bankstown, raising tensions in the area surrounded by Covid-19.

Police fined those allegedly refused to leave the country and arrested men and women.

7 news It was reported that about 100 people participated in the event, and there was a video of a scene wearing many masks while gathering in the park.

A 57-year-old man was charged with failing to comply with public health orders, not following police instructions, and detaining a knife in public.

He was denied bail to appear on the Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.

A 36-year-old woman was charged with not complying with public health orders and granted conditional bail to appear in the Bankstown District Court on September 2.

Further action was taken after eight men aged 29, 19, 55, 24, 17, 35 and two women aged 24 and 26 allegedly refused to leave the area. A notice of penalties has been issued.

A 24-year-old man was also charged with possessing drugs, and a 35-year-old man was infringed with offensive behavior and offensive language.

It was after the New South Wales government announced on Saturday that people living in the municipalities of Fairfield, Canterbury Bankstown and Liverpool would be trapped in the suburbs from midnight.

Only medical and paramedics are exempt from the rules in a move aimed at stopping the feared epidemic of Covid-19 in the southwestern part of the city.
