Police arrest suspect in murder of Comanchero chief’s brother in May

Seven months after Omar Zahed was shot at a gym in Auburn and injured his brother, Comanchero boss Tarek Zahed, NSW police have made their first arrest in the case.

The suspect was arrested at Sydney Airport and charged with covering up an indictable serious crime.

Shortly after 8pm on May 10th, emergency services were called to the Bodyfit fitness center on Parramatta Road, southwest of Sydney, following reports of shootings.

Omar Zahed, 39, was found with a gunshot wound but died in the gym foyer despite the efforts of emergency services.

Tarek Zahed, 41, was shot 10 times, including in the head, and spent months in hospital before being discharged.

The police investigation into the gymnasium shooting was part of an ongoing investigation by Task Force Erebus into deadly shootings and criminal activity by organized crime networks across Sydney.

In August, Tarek Zahed was charged with the murder of 29-year-old Youssef Assoum on December 11, 2014.

After further investigation, detectives arrested the 22-year-old man at around 10:30 pm on Saturday at a domestic terminal in Sydney.

He was refused to appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
