Emergency signal repair delays Sydney trains across city

Sydney’s rail network has experienced significant delays after emergency signal repairs in the west of the city halted service between some stations.

Commuters report being stuck at stations with blank screens showing no travel information, and some spending hundreds of dollars on taxis to get to their destinations.

NRL fans were urged to take public transport to the evening game between the Rabbits and the Sea Eagles at Sydney Olympic Park’s Accor Stadium on Saturday morning.

However, by 5:36 pm, two hours before kick-off, Sydney Trains said supporters should “make sure they have enough extra travel time or consider alternative transport”.

“We are experiencing significant delays due to emergency signal repairs being carried out in Homebush,” a spokesperson said on social media.

This is the second major train accident in a month. Tens of thousands of peak-hour commuters were stranded on the afternoon of March 8. This is due to a malfunction in the digital train radio system.

On Saturday evening, the T5 Cumberland Line was completely shut down and no alternative buses were available.

“Alternatively, take the T1 Western & T2 Inner West and Leppington Line trains to complete your trip,” advises Sydney Trains. “The delay is expected to continue tonight.”

Limited service was operated on the T1 North Shore and Western Lines between Hornsby and Ashfield, and trains between Ashfield and Lidcombe were replaced by buses.

In the future
