Russia hits record daily COVID deaths

Russian officials have reported deaths from 652 new coronaviruses. This is the country’s highest daily tally in a pandemic.

Tight records come from Russia struggling to cope with the surge in infectious diseases and mortality, in addition to low vaccine intake.

The Russian State Coronavirus Response Headquarters has registered more than 20,000 new cases and about 600 deaths daily since last Thursday.

On Tuesday, 20,616 new infections were recorded.

Authorities attributed the surge, which began in early June, to Russians’ lazy attitude towards taking the necessary precautions, the prevalence of more infectious mutants, and low vaccination rates.

Russia was one of the first countries to announce and deploy the coronavirus vaccine, but only about 14% of the population receives at least one dose.

The National Coronavirus Task Force reported approximately 5.5 million confirmed cases and 134,545 deaths during the pandemic.
