Rock fisherman dies on Sydney beach

A fisherman has died after being pulled from the water on a beach north of Sydney.

Emergency services were called to the Turimetta Headland in Narrabeen around 10:45 am on Sunday after reports of a rock fisherman falling into the water.

The man was hoisted from the waves by a Westpac rescue helicopter that landed at Rat Park near Wallywood.

The man died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics who performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, police said.

The man, believed to be in his 70s, entered the water wearing a life jacket.

An officer from the Northern Beaches Police Area Command prepares a report for the coroner.
