Record Covid’s death as Russia prepares for national curbs | Coronavirus

Russia reported a record 1,075 Covid deaths in 24 hours on Saturday. This is because Europe’s most devastated countries, with dramatically lower vaccination rates, will prepare for national curbs starting next week.

Despite multiple plea from President Vladimirputin and the availability of homemade Sputnik V vaccine, only 36% of Russians are fully vaccinated.

According to government statistics, the country saw a record 37,678 new virus cases on Saturday.

Official deaths are currently 229,528, the highest on the continent, despite authorities accusing them of significantly downplaying the effects of the pandemic.

The figures from the government’s statistical agency, Rosstta, are much darker, suggesting that by the end of August, more than 400,000 people had died from the coronavirus.

Moscow, the center of Russia’s outbreak, will suspend non-essential services from October 28th to November 7th.

Putin also ordered a national paid weekly holiday starting October 30 to curb the rapid spread of the infection.

The Kremlin said the 69-year-old would not meet in person during non-working periods.

Putin this week linked Russia’s high mortality rate to what he called “unfortunately” low vaccination rates and urged Russians to “responsible” and acquire jabs.

Sputnik V is used in dozens of countries but has not been approved by the EU or the World Health Organization.
