Coles, Kmart, Bunnings and BWS trading hours for Christmas and New Year

This year we had two consecutive long weekends during the holiday season. That is, store hours may change on December 25th, 26th, 27th, and on the 1st of January and 2nd of January holidays.

Here is a list of opening times and opening hours during the Christmas holidays in New South Wales.

Which supermarkets are open?

In the lead-up to Christmas, some stores are extending their opening hours from as early as 5am to midnight.

All major NSW supermarkets will be open from December 25th, but please check with your local store as public holidays affect each grocery store’s opening hours differently.

Are retail stores open?

All major retailers including Big W, Kmart, Target, When Banningsclosed on Christmas Day and reduced hours on public holidays.

Smaller retailers and local businesses in your area may have different trading hours over the Christmas period.

Can I purchase alcohol on public holidays?

Will Essential Services be open?

Essential services, including hospitals, will remain open during the Christmas holidays.

Pharmacies and chemists are allowed to trade, but hours may be reduced.

Can I fill up with gas on public holidays?

gas station etc. Caltex, BP, 7/11, Shell, When Ampolworks in normal trading hours.

Taxis and rideshares are also available, but additional charges may apply depending on each service.

Can employees earn public holiday rates?

yes. The provisions of the Fair Work Act 2009 relating to public holiday work, including penalties, apply.

Employers are required to pay their employees, including hospitality workers, holiday loads according to their discretion.
