Two cell phones confiscated during a Queensland home raid could prove essential to prosecution of a man who is expected to face crimes related to child abuse.
A 35-year-old Sunshine Coast man was denied bail and was charged with using transportation services to access child abuse materials and possessing child abuse materials accessed or obtained using transportation services.
The charges can be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
His arrest allegedly found police officers found child abuse material distributed from a Kik social media account after police executed an investigation warrant at a man’s Buderim’s house on Tuesday.
The investigation began when the Australian Center for Child Exploitation Control received a report from the US-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about distribution from social media platforms.
AFP’s Brisbane Child Protection Operations team has identified the man as an alleged user of the account and seized two phones for forensic examination.
The 35-year-old child will head to the Magistrates’ Court of Marutidor on Wednesday.
