ProMX MX1 field hopes to hunt down Beaton and Honda at this weekend’s retro round

Honda, buoyed by very good results at recent rounds, is on the verge of winning the Australian Motocross Championship in the top tier, the first since Craig Anderson in 2006 and under the name ProMX. thinking.

All of this is largely due to Australian international performer Jed Beaton. Beaton has been a consistent pillar of Honda Racing Australia since returning from the United States earlier this year.

His only race win at Maitland was backed up by a number of top-five finishes, which saw him score 172 points, just one point behind his replacement this season, Dean Ferris. there is Last year’s runner-up, the former Honda rider enjoys the freedom of racing as a Yamaha privateer, and boasts the highest number of wins with six wins. But don’t tell the factory team about it. They want either Clout or Tanti to be front-runners to help Craig Duck’s side win a third straight title. Defending champion Tanti is third with 163 points, nine points behind the Honda rider, while 2021 champion Kraut has 144 points, just 28 points behind Beaton. KTM Australia’s Kirk Gibbs separates the pair, with 154 points just 18 behind Beaton.

In MX2, Honda remains tight on the top step thanks to defending champion Wilson Todd. Todt will head into round six this weekend looking for a possible 37-point lead over KTM’s Nathan Crawford. The latter has yet to fulfill his mission of regaining points lost to his disqualification at the season opener in Wontagi and a DNF at Wodonga in Round 3 of Moto 1.

On the plus side, he is currently the rider with the most wins in this class this year, and if Todd has had a disastrous round, a series of victories will soon see him back on top.

MX3 is in a four-way battle for the win, with Byron Dennis still leading GasGas with 186 points. Husqvarna’s Jack Mather is within range with 164 points and a further 22 points behind. Yamaha’s Jake Cannon and Kawasaki’s Campbell Williams are the only riders left in range to challenge for the championship with 3rd and 4th respectively.

Round 6 this weekend is also the second ‘Retro Round’, a casual celebration of Australian motocross history. This is a recognition that reflects SBS’ history of covering the sport in one form or another for over 40 years, dating back to Mr. Motocross’s highly acclaimed days in the early 1980s.
