Oisin Murphy continued to lead William Buick with two wins in the Flat Jockey Championship race after issuing a seven-race card in Chelmsford City on Thursday. In Race 4, he was fatally injured on his home turn.
Murphy left unharmed after being thrown out of Discover Dubai, which had fallen badly after destroying two furlongs. Champions of the last two seasons have previously exchanged winners with Buick. Buick wants to be the champion jockey for the first time.
Buick went back with a 9-1 shot of Typical Woman at a beginner’s event, and Murphy piloted 11-8’s favorite Notions with a comfortable success in the third race of the card.
The bet suggested that Buick would move among Murphy’s winners in the fifth race of the card. His mount, Road Love Race, had long odds of 2-9. However, his favorites weakened in the final Furlong as Under the Twilight stayed well to record a comfortable win at 9-1.
This season’s score is 151-149 in Murphy’s favor, and Paddy Power will take Murphy a 4-7 chance (from 4-6) to win the title for the third consecutive year. Buick is 11-8 (from 11-10). ..
Buick has a complete book of eight rides at Haydock Park on Friday afternoon, while Murphy has five rides with the same card.
Both riders have two potential favorites at the meeting. Murphy will board Magisterial (3.30) and White Haven (5.10), and Buick will conduct the Mythical Dancer (2.55) and Duke Dam (4.40).
