The teacher told the boy he was willing to risk jail for sex

A Melbourne teacher who said he was willing to risk imprisonment for having a sexual relationship with a teenage student faces at least two years in jail.

A 25-year-old started grooming a boy at a school in Melbourne’s southeast in July 2021 and said she wanted to be his friend.

They started talking via Microsoft Teams and the woman said she wished the boy was older or younger and said she couldn’t believe she was developing feelings for the teenager.

It quickly escalated into a face-to-face meeting, with the teacher picking up the boy early in the morning and taking him to a nearby soccer field.

She told the teen that she knew they would go to jail if they were caught, but “if he was, I’d be happy to take the risk.”

That day, they had sex in the back of her car and continued to have sex there and at her house for the next four months.

The teacher also sent the boy hundreds of messages, most of which contained sexually explicit photos and videos.

She also saved explicit photos that the boy sent her.

Police became aware of the problem when the boy’s parents found some of the messages on his phone.

The teacher was arrested in November 2021 and released on bail on the condition that he not contact the boy.

She was remanded to custody last February for violating her bail conditions.

The woman pleaded guilty in Victorian county court to charges of grooming, sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16, and possession of child abuse material.

Judge Trevor Wright, who sentenced the woman on Tuesday, said it was inherently a serious matter because she betrayed the trust between a teacher and a student.

“The evidence is clear that the victim actively participated in the sexual act,” Judge Leight said in her ruling.

Judge Wright said the teacher groomed the boy for her own sexual desires, but she has now expressed sincere remorse for her actions.

He also admitted that she was a young woman with no previous criminal record, so her prospects for rehabilitation were very strong.

Judge Leight admitted she had been abused by a previous partner.

However, the judge ignored the allegation that the woman’s diagnosis of depression had influenced her judgment, stating that there was evidence of a plan and she told the victim that her actions were criminal. Said he knew

The woman was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison but will be eligible for parole in less than a year after already serving 401 days in detention.

She is on the sex offender register for life.
