Reddit has released new features for the first time in two years and has also appointed the first Chief Product Officer.
Social media giant Reddit has introduced Predictions, which updated the site for the first time in two years. As the name implies, predictions allow users to predict the outcome of an event or conversation.
Here is an example of a forecast:
- Who will win the AFL Grand Final?
- Which character will be destined for the next episode Squid game??
This new feature piggybacks on the voting capabilities of the platform piloted in 2020. Voting gives users the flexibility to change their knowledge of a topic by participating in voting. Users receive “bet” and “earn” tokens based on successful predictions.
The prediction is described as “a fun way for redditor to join over 100,000 active Reddit communities.” The new way of interacting can also remove the barriers that some users feel when posting.
Chief Product Officer
This week, Reddit announced its first Chief Product Officer. Pali Bhat was formerly Vice President of Product Management and Design at Google. With over 15 years of experience, Bhat oversees Reddit’s product organization and leads product managers and designers in creating features. This move aims to further promote community sensibilities and attribution between redditors.
The news came after a global technology company called the Internet Top Page opened its office in Australia in July 2021 and became the first office in the Southern Hemisphere.
