Victorian BBL club Melbourne Renegades has filed a proceeding against its sponsor over a $ 150,000 unpaid fee allegation.
Cricket Victoria, the owner of Renegades, has filed a warrant with the county court alleging that tech company Solos did not pay three-quarters of what it had to pay to sports organizations.
The Solos logo, a Sydney-based technology company that sells “state-of-the-art” anti-counterfeiting tools, appeared on the right sleeve of Renegade shirts at the BBL competition last summer.
The company also sponsored the NBL Club Southeast Melbourne Phoenix.
Posts on the company’s LinkedIn page show that Solo has sponsorship deals with both sports organizations, which they have marketed as Renegade’s “Fan Engagement Technology Partners.”
Renegade players Bowwebster, John Holland and Benny Howell were also featured in a video wishing staff for Merry Christmas 2020, thanks for their solo support.
However, Cricket Victoria now claims that the company did not pay Renegade $ 150,000 to pay under the sponsorship agreement.
A statement of claims filed in the county court states that the parties signed an agreement on November 24, last year.
According to court documents, Solo will pay Cricket Victoria $ 200,000 and GST in exchange for receiving certain sponsorship benefits.
Cricket Victoria claims that Solo paid the first $ 50,000, but “failed and / or refused to pay other invoices totaling $ 150,000.”
According to a statement of allegations, the parties entered into a settlement on August 18, this year, regarding the unpaid amount that Solo would pay Cricket Victoria in two installments of $ 126,500.
However, Cricket Victoria claims that the company did not pay the installments by the due date.
“As of the date of this claim statement, Solos was unable to correct the default payment, or otherwise pay Cricket Victoria at the amount charged or at all,” the court said. increase.
Solos were given to appear for 21 days starting September 29, if they plan to defend the allegations. The trial date of the civil proceedings has not yet been finalized.
NCA NewsWire is seeking comment from Solos and its lawyers.
