A second man has been charged with gangster shootings of a father and son last year in western Sydney.
Key Point:
- A father and son were shot shortly after attending a spree on Osgood Street, Guildford
- Two men are now indicted in connection with the murder
- Police claim double murder was planned as part of joint criminal enterprise
Homicide investigators yesterday arrested a 20-year-old man in Grafton and charged him with the murders of 18-year-old Salim Hamzeh and 64-year-old Tufik Hamzeh.
The pair were shot shortly before 9am in October 2021 while sitting in a ute on Osgood Street, Guildford.
They were found collapsed inside their vehicle, each with several gunshot wounds.
Salim died at the scene, and Toofik was treated by paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital, where he died.
A 20-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the shooting and willfully or recklessly directing the activities of a criminal group.
Detectives allege the man planned and directed the use of the getaway vehicle that was used just before and after the shooting.
They also allege that the double murder was planned as part of a joint criminal enterprise.
It is the second arrest made by the police in connection with the father and son’s death.
A 25-year-old man, who was charged with involvement in the incident earlier this year, is still in court.
There has been a series of shootings and murders in Sydney in recent years that police say are linked to a long-running feud between the Hamze family and their rival Alameddin family.
Homicide investigators believe the feud initially began over drug theft, but then escalated into a series of tit-for-tat shootings.
The Homicide and Organized Crime Squad, under the umbrella of Task Force Erebus, has established several strike units to dismantle Sydney’s criminal networks.
More than 250 people have been arrested on more than 800 charges since the massive crackdown began after a spate of murders late last year.
