Woolworths employee killed as pallet pile collapses west of Sydney

live

A man has died a day after a collapsing pallet injured him and two others at a Woolworths distribution center in western Sydney.

A 37-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition after being treated by paramedics following the incident in Minchinbury on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Wednesday they had received word that the man had died.

Two others were taken to hospital, where they are in stable condition.

All three were employed by Primary Connect, the Woolworths Group’s supply chain and logistics business.

A spokeswoman said the company is supporting the man’s family and cooperating with the police and SafeWork New South Wales investigations.

A Primary Connect spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred at our Sydney Regional Distribution Center yesterday afternoon, following the passing of one of our team members.”

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the friends and family of our team members during this difficult time. We are currently supporting their families and two other team members who were also injured in the incident.”

The distribution center remains closed out of consideration for workers and their families.

A spokeswoman said the supply of some products at some stores in Sydney may be affected over the next day or two, and thanked customers for their understanding.
