Kelly Chkalovsky’s son arrested on multiple drug charges

The son of former New South Wales Liberal Party leader Kelly Chkalovsky has been charged with offering drugs on the dark web under the username “AusCokeKing” in exchange for cryptocurrency.

Mark Chkalovsky, 37, was arrested Thursday at an apartment complex in Bondi Junction, east of Sydney.

According to multiple media reports, a $500,000 bond was offered for Chkalovsky’s release.

Chkalovsky’s mother led the New South Wales Liberal Party from 1999 to 2002, being the first female opposition leader in New South Wales.

She then founded her own consultancy, Chkalovsky & Associates.

Police claim the 37-year-old has received cryptocurrency in exchange for banned drugs thousands of times since 2017.

Detectives launched an investigation in January looking into the supply of banned substances across New South Wales using dark web markets.

“During the course of their investigation, detectives identified markets facilitating the supply of cocaine, methylamphetamine and MDMA in exchange for cryptocurrencies,” New South Wales Police said in a statement.

Officers executed a search warrant around 1:30 pm Thursday afternoon at an apartment in Bondi Junction and a house in Vaucluse.

“Investigators found prohibited drugs, computers, $30,000 in cash, various cryptocurrencies worth approximately $269,000, and two Porsche SUVs,” police said in a statement.

Det Supt Kraft said large amounts of cocaine, MDMA and methamphetamine were all on the premises, as well as restricted prescription drugs.

These items were seized for forensic examination.

Chkalovsky next appears in court on July 13.
