JOHN MARTIN returns to S5000 for Bassert

By Josh Nevett

John Martin will join the S5000 Tasman Series grid at Mount Panorama next week, returning to his open wheeler roots.

37-year-old Luis Leeds will be competing in two AGI Sport S5000 entries and will drive the same car as Bemberg Wanna, who raced at the Sydney Motorsports Park in the previous round.

Martin will be competing in international open-wheel competitions such as the A1GP World Cup in motorsport, Superleague Formula and British Formula 3, and will be the first to share all his experience as an S5000 race at Bassert.

He also has extensive experience with the Ligier JS F3-S5000 machine and has six races in the S5000 in 2019, including winning the Bend Motorsports Park.

The S5000 Drive is a shift from Martin’s latest motorsport experience, driving in the TCR Australia series with wall racing.

Martin was 7th in the Honda Civic Type R TCR TCR ranking and took his name to the podium on Phillip Island in March.

Elsewhere on the TCR grid, Aaron Cameron will be back after winning the opening round of the Tasman Series at Sydney Motorsports Park.

Cameron will also perform two missions at Mount Panorama, the S5000 and the TCR, to win the Tasman Cup and the associated $ 30,000 Champion Award.

Gary Rogers motorsport driver leads former Spanish F1 racers Roberto Merhi and Tim Macrow by 19 points, following three races in Sydney last weekend.

With Martin vacating the car next week, Bargwana will focus on his TCR Australia mission in Bathurst. And I only planned to compete with the opening Tasman Series round.

Cooper Webster also does not participate in the Bassert event. His new Versa Motorsports team is preparing for a full campaign at the 2022 S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship.

The S5000 Tasman Series will have a 30-minute practice session on Tuesday, November 30th, prior to Wednesday’s qualifying and the first of the four races on Thursday.

Subsequent races will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings, ending the 7-race Tasman Series.
